Two months after graduating from Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford, Eric Joseph “EJ” Wahl passed away from a brain tumor.
EJ, of New Hanover, was the son of Eric and Jennifer (Thackray) Wahl, according to his obituary.
According to Youcaring.com, EJ was diagnosed with Intrapoline Glioma, a brain tumor that attacks the brain stem, in September of 2012.
EJ had a Facebook Group, EJ’s Avengers, where community members rallied around the 18-year-old by organizing fundraisers, including a beef and beer and car show.
In February, a team of community members ran for E.J. in the Cupid’s Cranium 5K run at Pope John Paul II in support of brain tumor research.
A member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pennsburg, EJ was buried there after a life celebration on Friday.
Surviving in addition to EJ's parents are his maternal grandmother, Ann Thackray, Pennsburg; paternal grandmother, Rosalie Wahl, Glenside; siblings, Marissa, Jager, and Hollyann Wahl, all of New Hanover; uncles and aunts, David Thackray and wife, Donna, Slatington, Douglas Thackray, Pennsburg and Brian Gillespie and wife, Maggie, Easton; and many cousins. EJ was predeceased by his two grandfathers, Donald Thackray and Carl Wahl, according to the obituary.
