LONGHORNS WIN FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF GAME!!

Collegeville:  The 105 Pound Silver team rolled in its first round playoff game, beating the Pennridge Greenjackets 33-20 on Homecoming weekend.  John T. Walsh Memorial Field was jumping all day with football games, cheer performances, pony hops, an inflatable quarterback toss, specialty foods, pinatas, and a bonfire to celebrate the 51st Homecoming for the Longhorns!  But make no mistake about it, it was the 105 Pound Silver's home playoff game that was the highlight of the day.

The Longhorns' offensive line was the story of the game.  The blocking of Andrew Meeley, Luke Destefano, Declan Haney, Kyle Krupa, and Ashton Canelo controlled the line of scrimmage allowing the Longhorns to amass over 400 yards of offense in the game.

Longhorns running back Isaiah Wright has emerged as a threat every time he touches the ball.  With TD runs of 24 yards and 21 yards, the Longhorns held an early 14-0 lead.  Just before the end of the first quarter, Beattie hooked up with Julien Boston on a 48 yard pass to make the score 20-0.

Pennridge came out in the second half looking like a team that deserved to be in the playoffs.  The Greenjackets scored on their first drive of the second half.  Following a big defensive series, the Greenjackets scored again making it a 20-14 game going into the fourth quarter.

"The strength of this team has been the O-line all season", said Offensive Coordinator Jeff Massa.  "I put the game on their shoulders in the fourth quarter and they responded."  The Longhorns scored on TD runs by Wright and by Nic McMenamin to stretch the lead to 33-14.  The pesky Greenjackets continued to battle with a late tally of their own, but it wasn't enough to catch the Longhorns.

The 105 Pound Silver team plays Marsh Creek in the semifinals on Saturday, 10/26/13 at 6:00 p.m. at Marsh Creek on the turf under the lights.  "Marsh Creek is the standard bearer of the Bux-Mont League," said Head Coach Zach Santangelo.  "We feel honored to have the opportunity to play a great team from a great program," said Santangelo.  "But the way these kids have come together this season, and the way they play with such heart and determination, I like our chances."

Other games this weekend, the 120 Pound team beat Quakertown 13-7.  The 105 Pound Black team dropped a play in game to Pennridge.  The 80 Pound Black defeated the Lansdale Cannoneers and the 80 Pound Silver fought to a 0-0 tie against Conestoga.
