COLLEGEVILLE: "Qualifying as a Pop Warner Scholastics All-American is not easy", Scholastics Director Beth Schumacher stated earlier in the week as the 105 Pound teams gathered around her to hear who from their teams garnered such an honor for the 2013 season. "The fact that the 105 pound teams have 26 candidates is a testament to the quality of athlete we have here at the Longhorns and in Pop Warner".
In total, 50 football players and cheerleaders have qualified as a Pop Warner Academic All-American Scholar. To qualify, the child must have achieved a minimum of a 96% Grade Point Average in the preceding academic year! These children will be eligible for scholarships and other recognition at the local, regional, and national levels of Pop Warner.
Last season's Pop Warner National banquet was held in Boston (see photos). Hall of Famer Ben Coates, All-Pro Alfred Morris, and 1994 silver medalist Nancy Kerrigan were speakers at last year's banquet. Last season, Pop Warner awarded over $100,000.00 in scholarships to players and cheerleaders.
"This is what I love about Pop Warner. This is what sets us apart from any other youth sports league. Pop Warner understands that academics must be a child's number one priority", said Schumacher.
