FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!

COLLEGEVILLE, PA: 9/7/13:  On a picture perfect late summer evening at John T. Walsh Memorial Field, the Longhorns played two perennial Pop Warner powers, the Lansdale Cannoneers and the Lenape Valley Indians.  Head Coach Mike Santillo and several Pope John Paul II varsity football players were the honorary officials and performed the coin toss.  Two of the PJP II players, Michael Meade and Nick Howarth are former Longhorns players.

The first game of the evening was in the 105 pound Division 1 of the vaunted Bux-Mont League.  Four of the past five Bux-Mont champions of this division have gone on to compete for the National Championships in Disneyworld.  Last night however, no one on either sideline was thinking about anything other than the task at hand.  The Longhorns (2-0) beat the Cannoneers 24-6 with two touchdown runs by Justin Green, and one TD each by Randy Washington and Dylan Reilly.

The second game of the evening was in the 120 pound division between the Longhorns (1-1) and the Lenape Valley Indians.  The Indians used a four and five wide spread offense to perfection in the first half, tossing three TD passes to take a 20-0 halftime lead.  The Longhorns made the necessary halftime adjustments on defense shutting out the Indians in the second half.  David Smith's second long touchdown run early in the fourth quarter cut the Indian's lead to 20-12.  The Longhorns drove the ball down to the Indians four yard line with under two minutes to play.  However, the Indians rose to the occasion stopping the Longhorns on four plays, ending the Longhorns chances to tie the game at the half yard line.
