Winter Wonderland Weddings

I've always considered winter weddings almost magical!  With white or silver branches, crystals that look like ice, glitter, and snowflakes dancing everywhere - wedding receptions take on a mystical quality.  Many Spring flowers become available in early winter - tulips, hyacinth, paperwhites - but since they are not in season, are a bit more expensive at this time.  One thing to consider when planning a winter wedding in the month of December, is that any red and white flowers increase in cost as we head towards Christmas and New Years.  Red flowers start at their peak price two weeks before Christmas and white until after New Years.  Again, as we get closer to Valentine's Day - red roses are at their highest cost of the year!  I'm designing a wedding for V-Day this year using only red roses in the bride's bouquet and other types of red and white flowers everywhere else.  Those red roses remain the most popular Valentine's Day flower.  One flower that I particularly love in the winter, are white spiky mums that look like snowflakes.  Amaryllis and euphorbia are available in winter months. And surprisingly - so are peonies out of New Zealand/Australia.  As long as it's Spring somewhere in the world, a florist can find them.  And since the demand is down in December - peonies can cost a little bit less than in June! Berzillia are "silvery" balls that come from South Africa.  They can be painted even more silver or gold to add to the shimmer at your wedding.  Spray paint pine cones for a wintery shimmer too.  I've got lots of great DIY ideas for details at a winter wedding that I can share if you'd like to schedule an appointment with me to talk about your winter wedding flowers.  WhimsicalWelcomes@yahoo.com  All flowers designed by Whimsical Welcomes Floral Design
