Getting to Know Cut Flowers: Alstromeria

This is the first in a series of typical and not so typical flowers to use in your homes or for your wedding.  One of the most important things that I do is give each of my brides "flower homework" - I'm a former teacher!  This is a list of flowers available in their colors during the month of their wedding. Many they've never seen before and incorporate them into their weddings.  You're never too old to learn something new.  And many of these flowers are less expensive than some of the more well-known wedding flowers like roses, orchids, and lilies.

The first flower I want to talk about is Alstromeria - also known as Peruvian lily.  This versatile flower comes in a huge array of colors and is available all year around.  Some of them come bi-colored also like pink/white or red/yellow.   I consider it one of the flowers that gives a bride the most bang for her buck.  It has blooms on several brackets on each stem - this providing a lot of blooming flowers.  It lasts a long, long time - up to two weeks!  And it is extremely budget friendly.  They are extremely sturdy and do well in the heat.

The examples are all designed by Whimsical Welcomes Floral Design in Skippack .  Please contact me if you have any questions.
