HISTORICAL SOCIETY INTRODUCES NEW 2014 BOARD

The new Board of The Historical Society of Trappe, Collegeville, Perkiomen Valley recently assembled at the Dewees Headquarters site  in Trappe with renewed purpose and a variety of new ideas to achieve the mission of the organization in this, the 50th anniversary of its establishment. The Executive Committee consists of Ruth T. Daller, President;  Thomas Biggar, First Vice President;  Jennifer Cianci, Secretary;  The Rev. Judith Meier, Historian;  The Rev. Thomas Kochenderfer, Chaplain;  and Linda J. Kehr Wiernusz, Past President. The Society’s new president, Ruth Daller, noted, “today, fifty years later, we still follow the mission statement set before us and work diligently with 100% volunteer staff.  This has left a board of directors, members, and volunteers with a very large responsibility that we renew every year with committee formation, educational programs, interaction with students, and research opportunities.” The organization oversees two historic sites in Trappe, the Dewees Museum and the Henry Muhlenberg House.  The Dewees Museum, also the Headquarters office and Research Library, is located at 301 W. Main Street at the intersection of Route 113 and Main Street.   The Henry Muhlenberg House is located at 201 W. Main Street across from St. Luke’s UCC Church. All involved strive to maintain these two sites as well as provide relevant displays, exhibits, and events, not only to preserve the history of the area but to constantly pursue funding to enable these efforts.  Tour Guides welcome the opportunity to inspire interest in our history through stories that tell of those who participated in the founding of our nation. The Society encourages groups to organize tours of these sites, and welcomes visitors  most Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:00 P.M. from mid-April through October.  For further information call 610-489-7560, or visit www.trappehistoricalsociety.org for current happenings and updates.
