The Speaker's House Invites you to help Raise the Roof

Join us for the second annual Raise the Roof fundraiser reception on May 18, 2014, at The Barn on Bridge.

Your support is needed to make this event a success! Tickets, sponsorships, silent auction donations, and advertising opportunities are available. Visit www.SpeakersHouse.org/RaiseTheRoof

Enjoy music, dancing, a silent auction, cocktails, and dinner. All proceeds will benefit the restoration of The Speaker’s House, home of Frederick Muhlenberg, first Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and first signer of the Bill of Rights. Located in Trappe, Montgomery County, Pa., this historic landmark was nearly torn down for commercial development. Now owned by a non-profit organization, the house will undergo a dramatic transformation to restore its original colonial grandeur and enable it to serve as a hands-on center for historic preservation, training, and education.

The Barn on Bridge is a converted historic bank barn located just minutes from Trappe and The Speaker’s House. All Raise the Roof attendees are invited to take a special behind-the-scenes tour of the house prior to the reception. At five o’clock, the evening begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a seated dinner, live music, dancing, and a silent auction with unique works of art made by local craftsmen.

All proceeds from this event will directly support the restoration of the historic Frederick Muhlenberg house. The fundraising goal for the exterior phase of this project is $250,000, which includes the replacement of the current mansard roof—now more than 140 years old and nearing the end of its lifespan—with a pitched roof based on original architectural evidence. Building on our dual mission of preservation and education, the restoration will provide a hands-on learning opportunity for students and volunteers from around the country, while ensuring the long-term preservation of this historic landmark.
