Montgomery County Concert Band

Jazz Saxophonist Andrew Neu Featured

Renowned Alto Saxophone jazz
soloist, Andrew Neu, will be featured in two selections at the performance of
the Montgomery County Concert Band on Sunday, November 24 at 3 p.m. at
Souderton Area High School.  Blending a unique mix of jazz, R&B,
classical and Latin music, Andrew Neu is one of the most exciting, multi-genre
musicians today.  Andrew is well respected throughout the industry for his
work as a saxophonist, woodwind player, arranger, composer and recording
artist. Whether he’s in concert as a solo artist or a sideman, Neu’s
musicianship and powerful stage presence continue to get the attention of
audiences and critics alike. Passionate best describes him as he performs his
own composition, Vespa, as well as one of John Williams’ favorites, Catch
Me If You Can,
with the band.

The Montgomery County Concert Band,
now in its 19th year, regularly provides concerts throughout
southeastern Pennsylvania.  Members come from a variety of occupations,
volunteering their time to prepare and perform. Charles Neidhardt, newly
appointed music director and previously the assistant director since the band’s
inception in 1995, will conduct the concert.  Mr. Neidhart is a retired
music educator from the Methacton School District. In addition to the pieces
featuring Mr. Neu, the band will perform a range of musical selections,
including Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance and a seldom
performed arrangement of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats.  Also featured
is a transcription of the Light Cavalry Overture by Franz von
Suppee.  Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the
assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the Band will perform Ronald
LoPresti’s, Elegy for a Young American, dedicated to the memory of Steve
Frederick, founding director of the band, who passed away in July.
