Proper Posture for Peak Perfomance

Maintaining proper posture throughout the day is super important! Let Dr. Kyle help

In today’s world of technology and computers, a common issue can present itself in many ways. Poor posture leads to poor health. I’m sure most of you can remember the days when your mom or your teacher told you to “sit up straight!” or “shoulders back!” Well, guess what? They were absolutely correct.

Having proper posture prepares for peak spinal performance. (a little Chiropractic alliteration…go ahead, it was a little bit funny) Unfortunately, the majority of the population that sit at desks, work with computers, or drive many hours consistently, have similar problems relating to chronically poor posture.

While seated at your desk, it becomes easy to slouch, and either look down towards your computer or bring your head forward to get closer to the computer screen. Over the course of time, this can create chronic postures where your head will remain in front of your shoulders. (forward head posture)

This puts extra stress on your spine near the base of your skull, and at the top of your back between your shoulders. In these areas, there are nerves in the spine that control such functions like sleep, sinus and ear function, lung function, and arm/hand function.

Because these nerves may slowly become less functional, you may see things such as headaches and migraines, numbness and tingling in the arms or hands, changes in your breathing, sinus or ear infections, just to name a few.

There are a few ways to help correct these postures, and help you get back to 100%. Get your workstation ergonomically checked to make sure each component is where it should be for the best posture. A standing workstation can be very efficient and beneficial to you. If you sit for longer than one hour at a time, get up and walk around so the stress to your spine won’t continue to get worse. Stretch your upper back by bringing your arms back behind your chest so your shoulders aren’t chronically rolled forward as you are seated.

Also, get your spine checked by a Chiropractor. Our job is to help your body function at its best by addressing the spine and the nervous system. By correcting spinal misalignments called subluxations, Chiropractors can help those nerves function properly, so that you can perform at your 100%
