Maintaining the Benefits of Chiropractic Care Outside the Office

Dr. Kyle gives tips on what to do throughout your day in order to maintain your best results while under Chiropractic care.

I am asked every day, “What should I do when I am not here?” That is an excellent question because the choices and activities you make in your everyday life can have a huge impact on how much benefit you receive from Chiropractic care.

There are 3 major types of stressors that can affect your success. These 3 are physical, chemical, and emotional stressors.

Physical stressors: These can be either good for your body, or not so much. When it comes to laying, standing, and sitting, the seated position puts the most amount of stress on the spine, blood vessels, and nerves. Due to this, sitting can contribute to problems with muscles, joints, and discs between the vertebral bodies.

Here is what you can do outside the office: Positive physical stressors include going for a walk, swimming, working out with good form, and yoga. Introducing these positive stressors can help your body deal with other forms of stress and, in turn, give your body a better chance to heal.

Chemical stressors:  Some of these stressors can detrimental such as the types of foods you eat, and the types of beverages you drink.

Processed foods that are full of preservatives, colors, chemicals, and contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms) can alter your physiology and neurology.

Beverages that contain artificial sweeteners and flavors can contribute to extra stress on the body as well

Outside the office, by simply cooking a meal yourself, you have the ability to control what  types of foods you use, and what ingredients goes into them. Organic meats, fruits, and vegetables taste better, and are full of real nutrients that your body will love.

Stay tuned for upcoming blogs where I will give you some healthy cooking ideas and recipes

*A great tip: you will know when you are drinking enough water when it causes you to get up out of your chair to go to the bathroom about once an hour. This also helps you avoid sitting in one position for extended periods of time.

Emotional stressors: People are conscious of physical events that have happened to them in the past, such as injuries or accidents. However, much of the time, we may not be aware of the negative effects of emotional stress on our body.

Not dealing well with stress at work or home can cause loss of sleep, tension in the muscles, and can increase your blood pressure.

When you are not in the office, take time for yourself! Read a great book, meditate, breathe, relax, focus on the great things happening, and don’t worry about anything but you. If you don’t take care of yourself, nobody else will.

By decreasing emotional stressors, it can help you regain better sleep, calm you down, and give you greater energy throughout the day.
