A Chiropractor's Purpose

Several years ago, I listened to a lecture that had a very simple message: People don’t care about what you do, they care about why you do it. Especially when it comes to the Chiropractic profession, many people have preconceived ideas about what we do. I am here to hopefully change your mind about some of those things that you might be thing at this very moment.

My Chiropractic journey began as a very young child when I had a series of ear infections that weren’t clearing up with the “traditional” methods of antibiotics and medical interventions. My parents had a friend they went to high school with that was a Chiropractor, and eventually took me to see him.

After evaluating my spine and nervous system, he determined that I was not getting ear infections because my body had a lack of antibiotics; my body kept getting ear infections because some of the nerves in my neck were not functioning properly. There were misalignments in my vertebrae called subluxations which were not allowing for proper nerve flow to my body.

Because the nerves control every cell, tissue, and organ in the body, when they do not work properly, YOU don’t work properly. After a specific course of care and chiropractic adjustments, my ear infections were gone for good, and I haven’t had one since.

I continued care throughout my childhood because I was a competitive gymnast. Consistent Chiropractic care kept my body strong, flexible, balanced, and well. I RARELY got sick, and when I did, I went for an extra check up, and healed very quickly. While at the office, I saw people heal, grow, change, reduce their stress, and thrive.

Through these experiences, I decided as a teenager that I wanted to help people become better without needless medications by allowing their body to heal itself, just as it was designed to do. Ok, enough about me, lets get more into why I do what I do.

The majority of the population seek Chiropractic care because they are in pain. Now, “pain” is a dirty four letter word, because pain is one of the last symptoms you will feel when there is something in your body that isn’t functioning properly.

It takes about a 60% decrease in nervous system function before your body even starts to feel that something is wrong.  Also, only about 10% of the nervous system is dedicated to how you feel, so this is not a good indicator of your well being.

The reason I do what I do is because of the successes I see in my office every day.  I am privileged to see children sleep better, grow and develop better due to an optimally functioning nervous system. I am honored to have parents tell me that their children are doing better in school and sports because they can focus better. I am ecstatic to hear the excitement in parent’s voices when they tell me their child is no longer taking medications that would give them nasty side effects.

This is only a very short list of the amazing stories I get to hear and experience on a regular basis. People are living better, healthier lives through Chiropractic care; not just getting rid of pain.
