It's January Let's - GO - Get Organized!

Along with your other New Year’s resolutions you might want to add this one to the mix…GETTING ORGANIZED! I just wanted to alert you that according to NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers), January is the official month to take a stab at organization.

I know it might seem overwhelming, but January does have some features that make it a friendly time to start organizing. The major one is the weather! I find I am most productive in a snow storm - or especially during this new thing they’re calling a “Polar Vortex”. Let’s face it, we’re stuck inside with all of our stuff! And we’ve got time to just start. Maybe move that pair of pants that you haven’t worn in 5 years to a bag for donation. Maybe just find a donation bag. Set a timer for 15 minutes! See what you can get in your donation bag! One of the other features of January is that it’s a long month! It gives us so much time to accomplish something. I’m cleaning out my pantry 2 shelves at a time. I like doing this and even I have learned to divide projects into chunks.

One of the things I’ve heard my clients say when we finish our project is that they feel like they’ve lost 10 pounds! (Not really, you just feel lighter.) Clutter is a burden. What a wonderful side benefit of de-cluttering!

January is the month for new beginnings – like letting go of the past to make room for your future.  So whether that’s actually losing 10 lbs., or just clearing the clutter enough so you now have room to let what’s next in, IT DOES FEEL GREAT! (If you are thinking about really losing 10 pounds, check out this article.)

Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect - perfectionism stops most of us in our tracks. It just has to be organized enough for you.

So just start! It will feel great!

All the best,
