Dueling Pianos Fundraiser Nets $11K for Camp Rainbow Inc.

A dueling pianos fundraiser generated nearly twice the amount anticipated for Camp Rainbow Inc.

Hundreds of Montgomery County children are closer to enjoying week-long sessions of overnight camp following a March 15 dueling pianos fundraiser, which raised $11,000 for Schwenksville-based Camp Rainbow Inc.

The camp’s staff and its board of directors has been working to raise the $160,000 necessary to provide this wonderful camping experience to deserving Montgomery County children. Saturday’s event, which was held at board member Tom Johnson’s home in Horsham Township, featured s’mores, campfire snacks - and plenty of generosity.

Camp Director Alex Fizz said he was confident that Camp Rainbow would succeed in raising the remaining funds.

“I’ve never turned a kid away,” said Fizz, who has served as camp director of the 63-year-old camp for three years. “Heaven and earth has moved. I have never and will never turn a kid away.”

Johnson told the crowd of more than 40 gathered in his home that he had no trouble putting his “arms around” his support of the camp.

“It’s a great thing,” Johnson said. “I really believe in it.”

So much so that he hired pianists Chuck Donches and Chris Marsceill to play his pair of pianos. Tom and Debbie Carr donated food from The Full Belly Deli. The combined 52 contributors helped raise close to double the $125 per person suggested contribution.

The board continues to fundraise for this season’s one-week sessions at Camp Rainbow Inc. Camp opens on June 29 and continues through Aug. 8. Prospective campers can apply online (through May 9) for this summer’s camping sessions. To date, Fizz said 55 children have applied.
