First-Year Ursinus Students Volunteer for Orientation

Students spent their Saturday getting to know—and serving— the Perkiomen Valley Community.

During Ursins College's 'Welcome Week," students dispersed into the community volunteer as part of orientation with the UCARE program on Aug. 24.

“Our UCARE Service Projects provide an opportunity for Ursinus students to come together with the community for a day of service and reflection, said UCARE Director Elizabeth Cannon, 2010. “We hope that this day can help to strengthen the College’s mission and promote the value of service and civic engagement in our community.”

UCARE expanded to a number of sites this year to allow students to engage with community partners, including the Police Athletic League in Norristown, Central Perkiomen Valley Park in Schwenksville, Catholic Social Services in Norristown, Anderson Farm Park in Collegeville, Camphill Village in Kimberton Hills are among the spots students visited to volunteer.

“We are very excited about this day and hope students will continue to be involved with UCARE service projects throughout their time at Ursinus,” Cannon said
