Perk Valley Library Employee Named Director of Nearby Library

The Spring City Public Library Board of Trustees announced Wednesday that Lois Shupp, who worked at the Perkiomen Valley Library in Schwenksville this year, will serve at the library’s new director.

Shupp, who has a master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh, has worked for the library in several capacities since her graduation in 2011.

Shupp will begin the job on Sept. 3 in the library’s temporary location at at 2 Riverside Drive while its Church Street building is demolished and rebuilt.

“I'm really excited about the new library,” Shupp said. “Since working here in a part time capacity for a few years, I've heard a lot about the building project and it will be great for it to come to fruition.“

The new 3,100-plus square-foot building will provide a “comfortable and modern learning environment for the surrounding community,” according to the library.

“It is a space that the Spring City community really needs,” Shupp said.  “I think it will open up a lot of possibilities for both the library and the community to have a new and reinvigorated relationship and it will definitely allow us to serve all of our community members better.”

Shupp is filing the position vacated by Nicole Socha, who has served as director o the library for several years.

In addition to her experience with the Spring City Library, Shupp gained additional experience this year while working at Perkiomen Valley Library.

“In the upcoming year, I hope to expand our program offerings for all ages, but especially for adult and teens.  I also hope we can offer some information sessions about the new building to get everyone excited for when it reopens!” Shupp said.
