Pennypacker Mills Project Earns PVHS Senior his Eagle Scout Honor

Sean Murphy planned and install a wooden gate around the Children's Heritage Garden.

Perkiomen Valley High School senior Sean Murphy was awarded the honor of Eagle Scout in October, after planning and installing a wooden fence and gates around the Children’s Heritage Garden at Pennypacker Mills.

The garden is an important part of the historical site's new educational programing, and the fence and gates keep unwanted animals out.

Murphy helped at a Pennypacker Mills plant sale and raffle to raise funds for the project, which was completed on a June weekend in 2011 with the help of his family, Schwenksville Scout Troop, Montco Fence Company and Pennypacker Mills.

Murphy, who is planning his Eagle Scout Court of Honor in March, is one of only four percent of scouts who meet the necessary requirements to reach the Eagle Scout award, according to the organization.
