Senator Mensch's Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee Send 4 Bills to Senate

State Sen. Bob Mensch (R-24) recently held a Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee Meeting to consider Senate Bill 1266 (Solobay), Senate Bill 1274 (Solobay), Senate Bill 1423 (Mensch), and House Bill 2275 (Barrar).

Senate Bill 1266 (Solobay) amends the Emergency and Law Enforcement Death Benefits Act to extend the allotted amount of time for claiming death benefits for those emergency and law enforcement members that perish in the line of duty from 90 days to 3 years.

Senate Bill 1274 (Solobay) amends Title 35 (Health and Safety) to require owners of structures that use light-frame truss-type construction to mark the structure with a sign or symbol designating it as such.

Senate Bill 1423 (Mensch) amends Title 35 (Health and Safety) to extend the Volunteer Loan Assistance Program (VLAP) to include “heave rescue trucks” as a type of vehicle that a volunteer fire company, volunteer ambulance service or volunteer rescue squad may apply for.

“Senate Bill 1423 seeks to help our emergency responders by making a necessary adjustment to the Volunteer Loan and Assistance Program which provides 2% loans to Volunteer Fire and EMS departments,” said Mensch.

House Bill 2275 (Bararr) amends Title 35 (Health and Safety) by extending the wireless 911 surcharge sunset provision to June 30, 2015.
