PV 8th GIRLS WIN SILVER AT LANCASTER LOVE AND BASKETBALL JAMFEST

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Perkiomen Valley Youth Basketball 8th Grade Girls Travel Team was awarded the silver medal at the Keystone-Blazers Love and Basketball JamFest in Lancaster, PA on February 15th and 16th.  In the championship, Perkiomen Valley was defeated 50-25 by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) national powerhouse Ewing Ballers from Ewing, NJ.  Ewing was led by  Kalya Burnet, the #1 ranked eighth grade girl in the state of New Jersey with 13 points in the final.
 
“The tournament showcases some of the finest talent in the East Coast,” commented Thurmond Cameron, Executive Director of the Tournament.  “Congratulations to our medal winners for demonstrating their skill and character on the court.”

During the tourney, Perkiomen Valley defeated top caliber AAU and travel programs including Lancaster United from Lancaster, PA, the Nittany Valley Legends from State College, PA and the Souderton-Harleysville Youth Basketball Association at the Spooky Nook Sports Arena, a 700,000 square foot multi-sports facility, located in Manheim, PA.
 
“I am extremely proud of our young ladies for their hard work and dedication over the years,” said Perkiomen Valley Head Coach Tom Blomstrom.  “It is an honor to compete and have success with great regional programs.” 

The team was led in the tourney by center Megan Jonassen with 56 points and dominating rebounding.  Sharp shooting guard Alex Blomstrom chipped in with 52 points.  The defense was anchored by guard Hannah Brown, and forwards Megan Moore and Jessie Oltman.  Point guard Kylie Webb guided the offense and led the tournament in assists. 

The highly decorated Perkiomen Valley team had previously won titles at the 2011 Love and Basketball Tournament held in King of Prussia, PA, the 2012 Fetterman Memorial Classic in Cooperstown, NY, the 2012 Carlisle Thunder Tournament in Carlisle, PA, the 2013 March Madness Classic in Salisbury, MD, and the 2013 Bulldog Holiday Challenge in Allentown, PA.
