Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy To Honor Seven with Environmental Awards

Recognizing outstanding contributions to the local environment

SCHWENKSVILLE, PA  – October 7, 2013 - Ensuring that community efforts to protect and improve the local environment are publicly acknowledged, the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy will recognize seven distinct contributors with a 2013 Environmental Award .  Andrew Meadows, Conservancy Board Chair, shared enthusiastically, “It is our great pleasure to recognize these outstanding contributors to our local environment.  With a 362 square-mile watershed, the scale of what the Conservancy is able to accomplish is due to a great network of volunteers, concerned citizens and organizations.”

Award recipients or their work must be located within the 362 square-mile Perkiomen Creek Watershed.  The 2013 Environmental Award recipients are:

Kids Making a Difference – Shanna Law and Sherri Law
Advocate of the Watershed – Dr. Timothy Block, Morris Arboretum
Corporate – SKF USA, Inc.
Municipal – Lower Providence Township
Land Use – The Vineyards Community, Pennsburg
Preston Luitweiler Friend of the Watershed – Pam Bowen
Teaching Excellence – Patrick Hurley, Ph.D, Ursinus College

“Through their various efforts and contributions of time, energy and resources, the 2013 Environmental Awards recipients have made a lasting contribution to protecting and/or preserving the natural resources of our region.  We are all grateful to these individuals and organizations for helping to maintain the Perkiomen Creek Watershed as a wonderful place to live, work and play,” said Meadows.

Awards will be presented at the Conservancy’s annual Environmental Awards Banquet + Silent Auction Benefit on October 24 at RiverCrest Golf Club and Preserve.
