In May 17, 2009, on the front page of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Thomas Fitzgerald's article about Trappe informed us, "Known as a Republican stronghold since the Civil War, Trappe surprisingly went for Barack Obama in the fall [2008], 53% to 46% ... the first time in generations that a Democratic presidential candidate won a majority of the borough's votes."
Since 2008, the number of registered Republicans has remained stable, and just like the rest of Montgo, registered Democrats in Trappe continue to increase. Poll workers during yesterday's election said "We've never seen this many Democrats!" Yesterday, Trappe went for Mitt Romney 53% to 46% - a complete flip. (no front page Inquirer article this round)
1,883 people cast votes yesterday in Trappe. Here are the actual results:

In fact the only race not won in Trappe by a Republican candidate was Chris Amentas for State Senate. This comes as no surprise as our Mayor, Connie Peck, a Democrat who recently switched to Republican, sent a letter to Trappe voters enthusiastically endorsing incumbent Democrat State Senator, Andy Dinniman - which likely cost Amentas at least 100 votes.
Trappe Republicans came out in record numbers. One gentleman told us, "I haven't voted since Reagan." And with the odds stacked against Republicans given the 2008 election results, a record influx of Democrats registering to vote here in Trappe, and that Montgo went for Obama 57% - 42% - for Trappe to flip the 2008 results back to Republican is fairly amazing (again, why no front page Inquirer article now, Mr. Thomas Fitzgerald?)
Montgomery County Republican Committee (MCRC) was one of only a dozen Committees in the state of PA which together failed to give Mitt and Paul this swing-state victory. Philadelphia county went 85% to 14% for Obama, not reflecting any national average, but then we all suspected that would happen. With a bit more effort and organization, MCRC could have reversed Obama's 57-42 win in our County. I know many other Committee Persons across our area worked very hard and poured their energies into this critical contest, and they also got results in their municipalities. I am honored to serve the Party with them.
I want to send out a big THANK YOU! from me and my co-chair, Stu Strauss, your Trappe Republican Committee, to all Trappe Republicans. Together we delivered. We sent a very strong message about conservative policies leading to recovery and renewal.
Also thanks to two true Republican Trappe Council Members, Nevin Scholl and Tammy Liberi, and former Council Member Steve Kurcik. Scott Martin, your service to the Party will not be forgotten. Also our poll workers Elaine Lehman, Eva Jaeger, Sue Leighton, Ron Rahmer, and our high school volunteers - people would've stood out in the cold much longer if not for your efficiency.
3 million less voters for Romney than for McCain. 3 million voters stood for McCain but sat for Romney - and handed a second term to Obama. Why? This is what the analysts will dissect in the weeks ahead.
Trappe Republicans, you made my heart sing. Thanks again!
Yikes!

Why? Because Romney was a weak candidate and the electorate knew that even if some republicans were blind to it. No analysis needed.

Interesting, 53 to 46 was also the margin of victory for Adolf Hitler. Your fellow "brownshirts" must be proud.

Jack, thank you for all you do for the residents of Trappe and the republican party. Unlike your counter part Brian Donovan from the democratic party and I quote "We are not here to serve." It is a priviledge to serve with you and serve the fine people of Trappe.

Hey Jack mini Minster, Richard H & I have wondered were are you? The Pottstown Patch misses you. You talk a big game before the election but when Mitt fumbles the ball you are MIA. Guess you're the "man" we thought you were.
