Widener Professor Discussing Same-Sex Marriages at Ursinus

The talk, followed by a book signing, will be held on Monday afternoon.

 

John Culhane, a Widener Law Professor, will discuss legal rights of same-sex couples on March 25 at 4:30 p.m. and will hold a book signing after the talk.

Culhane will discuss the recent history in the marriage equality movement, and rights for same-sex couples.

The professor has been involved in recent debates, including the Defense of Marriage act and Proposition 8, in which California residents voted to make only marriages between men and women recognized in the state.

Culhane will discuss the evolution of the marriage equality debated, upcoming Supreme Court decisions, and how the debates has  “spilled into the broader question of state recognition of relationship, wish special focus on the civil union,” according to Ursinus.

Co-author of “Same Sex Legal Kit for Dummies,” and a contributing writer for Slate Magazine, Culhane has written dozens of law review articles on a wide-range od topics, including the rights of LGBT couples.

The event will be held at the Kaleidoscope Preforming Arts Center’s Lenfest Theater.
