Sarah "Sally" Widman, former Ursinus spokeswoman, of Trappe, dies

Services planned for Friday in Collegeville

Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” (Howard) Widman, 67, of Marian Avenue, Trappe, passed away Tuesday, June 19, at Phoenixville Hospital. She died of myelodysplastic syndrome, according to philly.com reports, a disease which “affects the blood and marrow.”

Widman was the director of communications at Ursinus from 1990 to 2002. Her title then changed to director of college communications and web information.

She had come to the college in 1983, according to reports, to be employed as the part-time editor of Ursinus Magazine, a publication for alumni. In 1986, she became its fulltime editor.

Additionally, Widman was a member of the Ursinus College Choir, and the choir at in Collegeville. She also was a member of the college’s lectures committee and was on several planning and policy committees on campus.

In addition to her husband, George, a retired Associated Press photographer, she is survived by her sons Robert and James, a grandson, brother and a sister.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, June 22 at , 532 E. Main St., Collegeville. There will be a funeral at 11 a.m., and a burial in the church cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Trinity Reformed Church or to the 20 W. Fifth Ave., Trappe.
