Police Investigating Early-Morning Bridge Street Crash, Suspect DUI
After a man struck a utility pole in Perkiomen Township at 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 19, reported major power outages in the area.
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an early-morning Jan. 19 crash on the 200 block of Bridge Street as a suspected DUI.
James Ray Benson, of Collegeville, was traveling Westbound on Bridge Street in Perkiomen Township in a 2003 Mazda Protégé when he traveled into the opposing lane and off the roadway on the left, striking a fence and utility pole, police said.
Trappe Ambulance transported Benson, 25, who allegedly exhibited signs of being under the influence, to Paoli Hospital for injuries and a legal blood draw, according to police.
Residents questioned a loud crash and power outage in the Schwenksville area at around the time of the crash, and Perkiomen Valley High School, which is nearby, lost power through Saturday morning and canceled all student activities for the morning.
Perkiomen Fire Company assisted at the scene.

Living closeby and hearing the awful impact of that accident (sounded like a house nearby exploding), I'm shocked the driver wasn't killed. There sure seems to be a fair amount of DUI/DWI'S reported within a few miles of Graterford here on the Patch.

You can actually sue him for that. Contact your homeowners insurance about it.

John, I also lost and called peco, who will not cover anything due to it being not their problem, I talked to the state police and got the incident report and officer name, and then talked to my homeowners who told me either I go through them (which makes no sense to me) or I can find this guys insurance company and goole against him and if he had anything left, I might get reimbursed. :/ sucks!
