Perkiomen Fire Co. to Expand Equipment Base
The Perkiomen Township Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a used apparatus that will expand the company's capabilities while saving money.
The unanimously voted to amend the township's budget to allow $65,000 from the unrestricted balance of the Fire Tax account to purchase a new fire apparatus for the township's .
Township Supervisor William E. Patterson, who also serves as the fire company's treasurer and Battalion 66-1 officer, told the board that the fire company found a service vehicle that will increase the capabilities of the organization, including additional equipment for accidents, hazardous material, lighting and water rescues.
This apparatus will take the place of the oldest engine in the fire company, which will be sold.
"It's time to look at upgrading our equipment to fit the needs of today's fire service," said Patterson.
Patterson also said that the truck's price is right. Fire Chief John T. Moran, Jr., found a used service vehicle online from a nearby fire company, and that the purchase of a used apparatus will save roughly $40,000 after their current truck is sold.
Perkiomen Township Fire Marshal John T. Moran, Sr. added that the company can now get the apparatus much sooner than if they were building it from scratch.
"It came at an opportune time," said Moran, Sr.
